Practice History

Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Associates is the oldest and largest pulmonary practice in South Metro Atlanta. The physicians of PSMA have been providing medical care to the community on a continuous basis since 1978. This practice was formed with the merging of two practices in 1986. Physicians and support staff have been added since that time to provide comprehensive pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine services to the South Metro Atlanta area.

Presently

Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Associates and Center for Sleep Disorders has five fully boarded certified physicians, with offices in Riverdale, Stockbridge and Fayetteville. All of our physicians are on staff at Southern Regional Medical Center, Henry Medical Center, Southern Crescent Hospital for Specialty Care and Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

Center for Sleep Disorders  - Both of our Sleep Centers are Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. We are a full service Sleep Center that can help diagnosis and Sleep all types of Sleep Disorders. Dr. Rastogi is one of the few physicians on the Southside of Atlanta that is Board Certified in Sleep Medicine. CSD utilizes trained credited sleep technician , and all studies are scored by our Registered Polysomogrhaphners. Both of our Sleep Centers are 4-Bed sleep Labs are set-up as comfortable private bedrooms , that are hotel-style units.

Our Physicians

All of the physicians of Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Associates and Center for Sleep Disorders are board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Pulmonary Diseases and American Board of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Rastogi is also board certified in sleep medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Rastogi is also certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry as a bone Densitometrist for evaluation and treatment of osteoporotic disorders.

Services and Procedures

Our practice offers complete office based pulmonary and sleep evaluations, including complete pulmonary function testing, blood gases, chest x-rays, bone density testing, EKG and nasolaryngoscope (for evaluation of chronic cough and upper airway disorders). ABI for evaluation of peripheral vascular disease. In the hospital we provide management of critically ill patients in ICU, pulmonary and sleep consultations. We offer management of mechanical ventilators, line placement (CVP, vascular catheters and Swan-Ganz catheters), intubations, chest tube insertion and thoracentesis. We perform interventional bronchoscopy including endobronchial tumor ablation, hemoptysis control and foreign body removal via cryotherapy or electrocaultery and endobronchial stent placement. We have a physician on call 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Pulmonology is classified as a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. A pulmonologist is a physician who is trained and acquired specialized knowledge and skill in the diagnosing and treating of lung disorders.
 
Sleep Medicine is a rapidly growing specialty which treats disorders related to sleep. Including sleep apnea, hypersomnia, insomnia, parasomnia, nocturnal epilepsy and circadian rhythm disorders.
People with life threatening injuries and illnesses need critical care. Critical care involves close, constant attention by a team of specially-trained health professionals. It usually takes place in an intensive care unit.
